Ok so things haven't been really active with the project in a while. The primary reason I haven't even been putting out concept art is that I bought a house in October and I've been quite busy, plus my drawing computer is still down in my basement.
While not much content has made it here to DA of late, I am still working on it and there have been a number of revisions and retcons and further development.
So for starters. You won, Pterosaur fans. Araea has flying Azhdarchids. Some of you probably remember the concept for the greater honeylance - a flightless arboreal azdarchid descendent - well I'm keeping the honeylances, but they are now going to be volant. Additionally, they will be joined by a second, related lineage known as grasslances, which are small (approx 4 feet tall), ground foraging Azhdarchids that fill a sort of secretary bird type niche in Araean grassland regions. Both honeylances and grasslances can fly but are kinda like galliform birds in that they do so only in short bursts. Honeylances in particular are quite heavily built by Pterosaur standards and are pretty slow, clunky fliers.
More conventional Azhdarchids might have only gone extinct as recently as the 1500s in the project universe, so there would be ample written account of them in human history.
Next- Araea's human technology level has been retconned to be even less advanced, more like 1920s-1930s in most cases. Pretty much everything is "pre-WW2" level.
A lot of my time has been devoted toward fleshing out what I'm terming the Interior Civil War, which is a plotline that involves most of my current named characters but takes place about fifteen years in the future when things go to hell in a handbasket in the interior zones and elsewhere all over the island as well. It's a little hard to simultaneously work on the plots for two different eras in the same project universe, although the Civil War storyline is compelling enough to me now that I'm debating starting with it and making a lot of the other stuff I had already developed a kind of prequel series.
One thing I'm also debating is trying to do more conventional art for this project because drawing with MS Paint is becoming a bit of a drag and not very convenient at the moment either. The real benefit of MS Paint is the ease with which I can edit and color my work, the actual line work can be pretty mind numbing to do.
The ultimate goal is to have a written component to this as well, however I never seem to get much writing done.
